Over 4000 runners took to the streets in Valencia on an overcast day with the threat of wind and rain, to take part in the 30th edition of the Valencia Marathon.
The race distance was 42.195 metres as certified by IAAF, AIMS and RFEA Urban Circuit.
A new record was set by the Kenyan David Njagi with a time of 2:09:45, being the second fastest time for a Spanish marathon.
The female winner was Gladys Chebet with a time of 2:42:06.
The RAK Half Marathon, organised by Premier Marathons, has consistently set precedents in road racing for the region. The course is flat and fast and ideal for those looking to achieve a personal best. It is an IAAF Sliver Label race and has been a full member of AIMs since 2009.
The 4th edition of the RAK half marathon saw 2,000 entrants begin the race early in the morning in sunny conditions and a temperature of 18C with no wind.
Geoffrey Mutai from Kenya won the race in a time of 59:43. He was helped in achieving this status by Deriba Merga of Ethiopia, one of the regular front runners, dropping out of the race at the 18km mark.
The winning woman was the Turkish double olympic silver medalist, Elvan Abbeylegesse with a time of 1:07:07.
