The 2010 UK-based Great Run series is shaping up to be the most memorable yet.
The series, organised by Nova, features eight events in all - the SPAR Great Ireland Run as well as seven Bupa Great Runs in England and Scotland.
And so far, 2010 has proved to be a record-breaking year for Great Run with over 100,000 people applying to take part in the 30th staging of the world famous Bupa Great North Run half-marathon on Tyneside - 54,000 runners have been accepted to take part on the day.
What's more, the Bupa Great Manchester Run is being broadcast live on BBC television for the first time (confirming its position as the premier 10k running event in the UK) while the Great South Run will celebrate its 21st anniversary in some style.
The 10k SPAR Great Ireland Run gets the series underway on April 18th in Dublin's lovely Phoenix Park before the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run on May 2nd - another 10k road race that sweeps through the scenic streets of Edinburgh city centre.
Some 36,000 runners will participate in the Bupa Great Manchester Run on May 16th, which will be followed by the Bupa Great North 10k - Sunderland on July 18th.
September looks to be a particularly exciting month with the 10k Bupa Great Yorkshire Run taking place in Sheffield city centre on September 5th and the Bupa Great North Run being staged on the famous Newcastle to South Shields road route on September 19th.
The 2010 Great Run series will conclude on October 24th with the Bupa Great South Run in Portsmouth, Europe's leading 10 mile road race.
Each Great Run event also features races for children - making them great for all the family.
2010 will also see the second full staging of the Nova-organised British Gas Great Swim series - a set of four one-mile open water swims staged across England and Scotland.
The series, launched in 2009, begins with the British Gas Great East Swim at Alton Water near Ipswich on June 19th.
The British Gas Great London Swim takes place on July 3rd at Royal Victoria Docks with the British Gas Great Scotland Swim following on August 21st at Strathclyde Loch near Glasgow.
The series closes with the British Gas Great North Swim, which is already full, at Lake Windermere on September 4th and 5th.
