Historic Roman City, Chester, is rapidly becoming a centre for 1st class distance road running. The City with its Roman origins has much to offer the runner and visitor alike. Chester is already one of the UK’s top tourist destination cities with visitors attracted by the Roman Walls, amphitheatre, city centre racecourse, unique medieval rows boutique shopping, the UK’s largest designer outlet mall and the world class Chester Zoo. The city can now add to that impressive list two top quality road races with an enviable reputation.

2010 saw Chester based Active Leisure E vents organise the City’s 1st ever marathon which sold out well in advance of race day. Following overwhelmingly positive feedback from the initial race, for 2011 a new course was approved which passed all the City’s iconic landmarks with a start and finish at the City centre racecourse which enabled the organisers to offer 1st class facilities and a spectacular fast course. In 2011 the MBNA Chester Marathon was rated high in the Runner’s World top 10 marathons of the year beating London, Brighton, Liverpool and Edinburgh. The organisers are well on their way to achieving their aim of hosting the UK’s favourite regional marathon.

For 2012 Chris & Andy take over responsibility for the organisation of the 30 year old half marathon and have a fast new course which will enable the always sold out race to grow. The Cheshire Oaks Chester Half Marathon route is assured to be fast and with a start at Chester Racecourse and finish close by in the city centre outside the Town Hall and Cathedral. With half marathon day being on 13th of May the race is already 80% sold out so interested runners need to enter soon to guarantee a place.
