Run in the sun, swim in the surf, bathe at the beach – Australia’s Gold Coast Airport Marathon has it all. Once again it’s being spread over two days which is an even better excuse to spend a mid-winter weekend in Surfers Paradise.

Entries opened in March for the main event held annually on the first Sunday in July. This year that means shorter distance races will be run on the last day of June – the wheelchair half marathon, 10km run plus the 4km and 2km junior dashes. On Sunday, participants will line up for the full marathon, half marathon and 5.7km challenge.

The community embraces this marathon weekend which brings in national and international tourists to join with local participants.

The Gold Coast is one of the world's leading holiday destinations known for its sunshine, golden surf beaches, beautiful broadwater, popular restaurants and cafes, exciting theme parks and accommodation for all budgets.

The marathon course runs next to the Gold Coast's surf beaches and broadwater and has a reputation as a great course to set a personal best time. It provides people of all ages and abilities with a personal challenge - it could be to run a distance, run a personal best time, fundraise for a cause, or just run.

Gold Coast weather conditions in July are traditionally great for running – low humidity, little or no wind in the morning with temperatures ranging from 10-20 degrees Celsius.

Training for a marathon or any of the races on the programme will increase your physical activity levels and you will learn more about nutrition as you strive to be in good physical condition on race day.

The popular Gold Coast Airport Marathon Online Training Diaries are now available to download from the event website.

Written by four-time Gold Coast Marathon winner, Pat Carroll, these 20-week programmes will help you get your campaign started and keep you on track!

There are training diaries for the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km Run with Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced programmes for each distance. To help you decide which diary to use, read the Essential Information.

The interactive PDF format gives you the ability to track and save your training kilometres, the number of sessions you complete and has fields to enter comments about your time and performance. There are inspirational quotes each week to keep you motivated to achieve your goals on 30 June-1 July!
