Tarsus Half Marathon

16th March

This event celebrated its 10th anniversary but its roots are ancient. Tarsus, in Mersin Province, Turkey, goes back more than 6,000 years and has long been an important stop for traders. It is where Mark Antony first met Cleopatra and where Paul, the Apostle, was born. The half marathon route celebrates the historic roads of Tarsus, which were built and used by the Romans around 500-600AD.

An event which promises to be a positive and uplifting experience for participants and supporters alike, organisers are very excited to be bringing a big, professional distance running event to one of Ukraine’s biggest cities.

Offering marathon, half marathon, 10km, 3km and relay events, the organisers are placing a strong emphasis on making Kharkiv an event accessible to all comers regardless of running experience or ability. For budding young runners there are also children’s events available.

With the route along Kharkiv’s three major arteries, Sumskaya, Pushkinskaya and Lenin Avenue, runners are able to truly experience the heart of Kharkiv. Along the way runners will be surprised and amazed by just how much beauty Kharkiv has to offer with attractions such as Gorky Central Park, Taras Shevchenko Park and the exquisite Zerkalnaya Struya.

The inaugural MTS Kharkiv International Marathon is displaying a lot of promise as an exciting, positive new event. Why not mix up your 2014 running calendar with something a little different, something unexpected? You may find you are pleasantly surprised.
