Malaysia’s Penang Bridge Half Marathon is to host the first ever AIMS Asia-Pacific regional conference.

Taking place from 12-13 June, it will be largest gathering of marathon and distance running race directors from the region. The conference offers a chance to meet others, exchange ideas, learn from the experienced and discover new opportunities.

Taking the theme “Global Unity through Running”, delegates see unity and peace as the vision of all road races. Subjects on the programme cover marketing and promotion of running events as well as future growth of running events in Asia-Pacific.

The conference will hear from guest speakers on what is required to achieve IAAF Road Race Labels, use of social media for running events and the successful shift from elite to mass participation at running events in Japan.  There will also be interactive group discussions for more in-depth exploration of the various subjects.

Keynote speaker is Carlo Capalbo, founder of Prague International Marathon, which is now the key event in the RunCzech running series.

As always, the conference ends with a race. This time it’s the Penang Bridge Half Marathon on 14th June, an out-and-back race across the new Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge, which connects Batu Maung on the island and Batu Kawan on the mainland.

Choose a 5K which starts and finishes at Sand Point in Five Islands, Nova Scotia, running across a tidal river and out onto the exposed sea bed next to magnificent cliffs; or a 10K which starts at picturesque Soley Cove and finishes at Sand Point.
