2016 marks the 14th year that the Tough Guy & Gal Challenge has been running.

Murray Fleming started the event in 2003, in Rotorua when 432 competitors took on the challenge. It proved so popular that now the season consists of 9 events held across the North Island.

Tough challenges are held in Wellington, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Auckland, Hawke’s Bay and Rotorua. Organisers are expecting 20,000 hardy souls to brave the mud and mayhem this year.

Set between May and August, these completely unique off-road running events are open to competitors who are 13 years and older.

Challenge yourself on a course that includes swamp crossings, a spiders web net climb, crawl under barbed wire, beautiful native bush trails, tunnels, hurdles, a climbing frame not to mention, mud mud and more mud!

With 6km or 12km distance options over magnificent courses with spectacular scenery, the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge is bound to get your blood pumping.

Not just for adrenaline junkies but anyone seeking a thrill, competitors come in all shapes and sizes with the main initiative to have fun and push yourself out of your comfort zone.

With prizes for fancy dress, there’s always someone taking costuming to the next level providing entertainment for competitors and spectators alike. Come and join New Zealand's maddest endurance race this winter!
