In the highly anticipated elite races, staged exactly five months before Rio 2016 gets underway, Spain’s Mario Mola started off the 2016 World Triathlon Series season exactly where he finished - on top of the podium, as he shook off a slow swim and a penalty to win the ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi for the second consecutive year in front of thousands of spectators.

In the women’s race Great Britain’s Jodie Stimpson finally earned her way back to the top of the podium by winning the first race of the season, her first World Triathlon Series victory since 2014.
