The 38th Zurich Marató de Barcelona was held on March 13th with 20,287 registered athletes taking part; the largest number so far in the history of the race, putting the Catalan caital in the top 5 most important European marathons.
The marathon also held the female record, thanks to the sensational performance of the Kenyan athlete Valary Jemeli Aiyabei, with a time of 2:25:26.
The absolute victory was given to the favorite, the Ethiopian Dino Safir, with a time of 2:09:31; the 9th best time in the history of the race. He beat the legion of Kenyans who fought for the victory, ahead of the Kenyan Albert Korir (2:10:08) and Jafred Chirchir Kipchumba (2:10:23); on a day which delivered a wonderful festive atmosphere in the city.
The race course took in the most emblematic places of Barcelona; the Camp Nou, La Pedrera, Sagrada Familia, Calatrava Bridge, Forum, the seafront and Arc de Triomf. A fast track but very beautiful allowing all participants to enjoy the best of the city.
