Geneva Marathon

Spring is the traditional time for the Geneva Marathon and this year it will be run on 10th May.

Race organisers have set a new course for this 5th anniversary event, with hopes of cheering spectators lining the flat and fast route. The new course follows the road though the city of Geneva, then along the banks of Lake Geneva, the river Rhone and the river Arve.

Last year, the marathon was held in September because of events earlier in the year connected to the EURO 2008 football championship. Organisers anticipate a much larger marathon field this year.

Ethiopian runner Tesfaye Eticha has won the Geneva event four times in a row. It will be interesting to see whether he can continue that success this year. He has been described in a Swiss newspaper as a "cunning old fox with lots of pace".
