The start of the 8th Zermatt Marathon takes place in St Niclas, the deepest valley of Switzerland and finishes at the Riffleberg, which has an altitude of more than 4,000 metres and is surrounded by 28 mountains with views of the majestic Matterhorn.

Approximately 1,700 runners will take part in the marathon along with Simon Anthamatten from Zermatt who won the 'Oscar of Alpinism', and Ueli Steck, the famous Switzerland extreme alpinist.

The marathon promises to be a very special running experience taking in the town of Zermatt with the world famous Bahnhofstrasse as well as lush meadows, ice clear mountain lakes and, of course, thousands of cheering spectators.

The finish is 2,555 metres above sea level and guarantees a magnificent view. The marathon is supported by the Barilla pasta party at the Bahnhofsplatz in Zermatt on Friday, and the Jodelmesse will be held at the same venue on Saturday.
