Reading Half Marathon

Glorious spring sunshine and a perfect temperature boosted the attendance at this year's Madrid Half Marathon. More than 14,000 runners entered the race, which was an increase of over 2000 compared to last year.

The winner of the race was Ethiopia's Reta Kabtamu with a time of 1:03:33. The female winner was Aseffa Aselefelch, also from Ethiopia with a time of 1:13:46

Impressively, more than 70% of the runners finished in under 2 hours, which just goes to prove the quality of competitor that the Madrid Half Marathon can attract.

The Deep River Rock Belfast City Marathon attracted over 16,000 people keen to run on the Bank Holiday Monday. There were only nominal changes to the course from 2008 and so no nasty surprises awaited those who competed last year.

As a city, Belfast is described as compact and intimate thus giving runners the feeling that they're not running as far as they actually are! With its primarily Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture, it makes for an attractive running arena.

This year's winners were John Mutai in the male category, with a time of 2:17:34 and this year's female winner was Suzanne McCormick with a time of 2:59:18.
