Inspiration and endurance at the inaugural Run24

The inaugural Run24 happened on 30 June – 1 July, and was hailed a great success by everyone involved. The new race concept with a tag line of ‘Run Camp Eat Sleep Run’ took place in the scenic Wasing Park Estate in Aldermaston, Berkshire and saw just under 450 runners turn up to take part in the first ever Run24 endurance challenge.

A 24 hour individual and team relay, runners could sign up as solo runners, pairs, teams of 3-5 or teams of 6-8, either in male, female or mixed categories. The 8 km / 5 mile laps incorporated woodland trail running at its best, welcoming experienced ultra runners and endurance virgins as well as corporate teams and club runners. The runners and teams with the most laps claimed the winning titles across the various categories, and some inspirational performances were witnessed with a few of the solo runners, male and female, covering more than 100 miles over the 24 hour period.

Free camping, entertainment, 24 hour catering and 24 hour massages in beautiful surroundings gave Run24 an exciting festival feel whilst the runners were pounding the trails either in quest of their personal endurance goals or to just have some fun and bond with their team and club mates.

Across the day, hundreds of running enthusiasts took part in challenging 10km, half marathon and marathon distances whilst enjoying breathtaking Lakeland views.

The 10km route left Station Field along the Keswick Railway Footpath, climbed the northern shoulder of Latrigg Fell, before making its way back down Cumbria Way to the finish line at Station Field. The multi-lap half and full marathon distances also incorporated this route, along with a longer lap reaching a height of nearly 400 metres.
