World-beating triathlete brothers Alistair and Jonny Brownlee have partnered up with the National Trust to host their first ever triathlon this September in their native Yorkshire at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal.  The ‘Brownlee Tri’ will take place at the World Heritage Site on Saturday 21 September.

Billed as a super-sprint triathlon, it will start with a 400m swim in Studley Royal lake, then a 10km bike ride will take competitors through the medieval deer park before culminating in a 2.5km run. The run goes through Studley Royal water garden and the ruins of Fountains Abbey before finishing on the east green.

It will be a day out for the family with an entertainment village and a showcase Brownlee Challenge where Alistair and Jonny compete against each other on the Brownlee Tri course.

The Miles with the Giant Marathon will take place on Sunday 22nd September.  It features a marathon of 26.2 miles, a half marathon of 13.1 miles, as well as 10K and 5K races. The certified course combines urban, park and residential settings with the beauty of Lake Superior's shoreline and the shadow of the Sleeping Giant.

The Sleeping Giant pre-dates everyone: he is some of the oldest rock on earth.  Known in First Nations legend as Nanabijou, this spirit of the deep water was turned to stone when the secret location of a rich silver mine was disclosed to white men.

The giant is a powerful symbol that encapsulates the very best of Northern Ontario: ancient Canadian Shield with dramatic steep cliffs dropping to the pristine waters of Lake Superior and a true place of protected natural beauty with important cultural meaning for First Nations people.

The Sleeping Giant provides a place for a full range of healthy pursuits including camping, hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and sailing. The Giant now invites all comers to join him in a new pursuit; running.  It is an experience that you won’t want to miss!
