Almere is a renowned name in triathlon history. After Hawaii, the Dutch triathlon is the oldest in the world. The course is 4.5m below sea level at the bottom of what was once the Zuiderzee (South Sea), just 25km from Amsterdam. Still surrounded by water, the route features dikes, windmills and endless straight polder roads where you can’t hide from the winds! The battle with the elements is a battle with yourself.
Cologne/Köln Marathon
13th October
"The same procedure as every year" – Cologne Marathon starts in Deutz in front of Ottoplatz. New this year are changes that take the course through some of the city’s popular quarters with a new finish at historic Cologne Cathedral, at Komödienstraße.
It’s all happening in Kelowna the second half of this year! The picturesque British Columbian city in Canada plays host to two great sporting events over the next few months – the Okanagan Marathon and the Pushor Mitchell Apple Triathlon.
Taking place in the breathtaking Okanagan Valley, both event courses encapsulate much of the beauty the area has to offer.
Okanagan Marathon is run primarily along the lakefront of majestic Lake Okanagan, with many forays into the gorgeous city streets of Kelowna included.
The Pushor Mitchell Apple Triathlon begins in the warm water of Lake Okanagan, before sending participants up the legendary Knox Mountain on their bikes. From Knox Mountain participants ride over rolling terrain back into town, where they dismount and run the last leg of the event along the shoreline of Lake Okanagan.
A popular tourist destination, Kelowna has plenty to offer visitors in both summer and winter months. An array of local attractions, events and festivals, not to mention the stunning natural surroundings, make Kelowna a very exciting place to be for people of all ages and interests.
Whether you’re a marathoner, a triathlete, or both, you’ve simply got to get to Kelowna for two spectacular events this year!
