The bustling metropolis of Melbourne, Australia is gearing up for the 38th Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival.
Australia’s fastest growing city, Melbourne is proud of its place as Australia’s cultural capital. Bursting with galleries, museums and spectacular architecture, the city has also reinvented itself with chic eateries and rooftop bars opening in former industrial buildings.
Apart from its stylish, arty side, the city is also home to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Internationally, the MCG is remembered as the centrepiece stadium of the 1956 Summer Olympics, the 2006 Commonwealth Games and two Cricket World Cups - in 1992 and 2015.
After surveying some of the most scenic parts of Melbourne, runners return to the city centre and the MCG. This prestigious arena serves as the finish line for the Melbourne Marathon.
All events finish with a three-quarter lap around the stadium before crossing the line in front of eager spectators. The MCG is within walking distance of the city centre and family and friends can enter for free on race day.
Finishing in such an iconic location, where so many great athletes have competed, is the highlight of this exciting event. Melbourne Marathon Festival has full marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5.7km and 3km events.
