The shoreline of lake Kielder is 26 miles long, making it the perfect choice of marathon venue.

The number of entries for the marathon was limited to 1,000 but attracted runners from far and wide and first place was taken by Zak Kihara with a time of 02:29:06.  The first female was Lizzy Hawker with a time of 02:58:22.

The marathon was supported by the Run Bike Run race and a children's fun run.

The first Kielder Marathon, the brainchild of Steve Cram MBE, took place on 17 October 2010 within the stunning Kielder Water and Forest Park.  The route was mainly off road and used the Lakeside Way, a pathway that encircles Kielder Water; North Europe's largest man made lake.

Kielder Water and Forest Park has land and water based activities, art, culture, heritage, wildlife, and star gazing amongst its activities, so it was the perfect venue for keeping spectators entertained when they weren't cheering on their family and friends.
