On October 9, 2011 the 27th annual running of the Army Ten-Miler (ATM) took place in Washington, DC. The third largest 10-mile road race in the world posted the largest field of finishers with 22,074 (12,377 males and 9,697 females). The ATM is produced by the Military District of Washington with all race proceeds benefiting the Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation fund which support Soldier and Solider families.

“Overall the Army Ten-Miler was great, lots of fans throughout the course, which makes you work extra hard, especially when they are cheering you and saying 'Go All Army", it is the best spectator race that I have ever participated in, great.

Parachute team and the singing of the National Anthem before the race makes the event that much more exciting, motivating and entertaining. Watching the wounded warriors compete makes you appreciate their efforts and makes you want to go out there and do your best just for them” stated Cheseret, the third place winner.

The race continued the progression along Constitution Avenue and turned at 19th Street towards Virginia Avenue and went towards Rock Creek Parkway in the direction of the Kennedy Center. The runners passed the Lincoln Memorial along Independence and near the World War II Memorial they crossed the five mile mark. The race had begun to thin out as the pace was increasing.

For the past couple of years only two teams have been in contention for the International Army honors - US All Army and Brazilian Army. This year, the competition ended with the closest times in the history of the International Cup. The US All Army Team successfully defended the title with 3:16:05 to 3:16:09 over the Brazilian Army Team.

Both the male and female Commander's Cup awards went to Fort Bragg. The men's team time was 3:42:29 while the women's was 4:24:20. This is the 10th time since 1997 that the Fort Bragg women have captured this title.
