ATM Officials Salute All Participants

For Victorious 2012 Race

Washington, DC -21,912 runners crossed the Finish Line on a beautiful, sunny 60 degree day for the Army's 28th annual Army Ten-Miler race that started and finished at the Pentagon.

The U.S. Army Golden Knights, the world's premier skydiving team, jump started Sunday's race with an aerial parachute demonstration.

 

At 7:55 a.m. wheelchair athletes and wounded warriors began the race followed by six wave starts with faster runners upfront. Following the race, Maj. Gen. Michael S. Linnington presented awards to the top individual and team winners including the top wounded warriors. The awards ceremony closed the event-filled morning, which included live music from the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own", a Youth Activity Zone presented by Health Net with 100 and 200 meter runs for kids and Army commands from around the world showcasing their Army pride and spirit in the HOOAH Tent Zone.

 

Tesfaye Senedeku-Alemy crossed the finish line at 47:48, beating his personal record from last year by 3 seconds. Augustus Maiyo finished in a close second at 47:54. With a final race time of 48:11, Frankc Caldeira rounded out the top three male winners.

 

Kerri Gallagher won the women's race in 56:09 and placed 80th overall. Aziza Aliya-Abate took second place finishing one second behind Gallaher with a time of 56:10. Completing the top three women winners was Tezata Dengersa, who took first place last year, finishing in 56:26.

 

 

Philippe Rolly took the Male Masters title with a 53:01 and Alisa Harvey took the Female Masters title with a time of 1:03:13. The team competition featured over 700 teams combing the four fastest individual times to determine the winners. The prestigious Commanders Cup for fastest U.S. military team was awarded to Mountain Post for the men and JBLM for women. The men's team won with a time of 3:32:33 and the women's team won with a time of 4:15:01.
