The Australian Outback Marathon.  The very name conjures up images of red earth, sweeping vistas and wide open spaces and this is one event that has all of these in abundance.

Whilst there is no specific geographical centre of Australia due to its shape, Uluru (Ayers Rock) is as close as you can get and this is the setting for one of the most unique races on the planet.

The Australian Outback Marathon comprises four different events, a full marathon, half-marathon, 11km fun run and a 6km fun run.  The entire event has been designed to not only encourage participation but also to give participants the opportunity to experience all that this amazing region has to offer.

Each of the four courses takes you out into “the bush”, giving you the opportunity to experience for yourself why the indigenous Anangu people consider this to be such a sacred place.

Not only will you get to see the iconic Uluru (which features as the backdrop for your run) you will also get breathtaking views of Kata Tjuta (formerly known as the Olgas).

The ground underfoot features all the varied running surfaces you would expect in the middle of Australia; bush tracks, fire trails, soft-sand dunes, graded roads and just a tiny bit of sealed road for the marathon and half marathon runners.

Entry also includes accommodation at the world-renowned Ayers Rock Resort, with plenty of choices of where to stay.  Relax in the five-star splendour of the newly refurbished Sails in the Desert, take a group and stay in the Emu Walk apartments, sleep in a Deluxe Rock View room at the Desert Gardens hotel or enjoy the Outback Pioneer with its outdoor BBQ and bar area.  The choice is yours.

In addition, most meals are included as well tours to some of the most amazing places you could wish to see; Uluru, Kata Tjuta and the quite remarkable Kings Canyon, a desert oasis carved out of the surrounding desert (think Grand Canyon!).

If all that were not enough, the celebration dinner is possibly one of the best on the planet, with guests being taken to a private dining area deep in the desert for a fully hosted dinner.  Imagine what it is like when all the lights are turned off and your own personal astronomer takes you on a tour of the pristine night sky! will be there taking some breathtaking imagery for you, all of which is included in your entry.
