In 2014 the Rotorua Marathon celebrated 50 years of being perhaps the greatest marathon event in New Zealand. Next year, participants are once again invited back to “take on the lake” in the tourism capital of the North Island.

Rotorua as a city offers a whole lot to visitors – from the picturesque lake, to stunning geothermal wonders, historic architecture and beautiful gardens.

The Rotorua Marathon has built a reputation on delivering many of these marvels to runners in the form of a well organised event with great atmosphere.

Competitors begin in the picturesque Government Gardens, from where they proceed to wind their way around majestic Lake Rotorua by way of the Hamurana Hills.

After their circumnavigation of the lake, participants will run through the Princes Arch as they hit the home straight to finish back at the Government Gardens.

If the full Marathon distance is not for you in 2015, the event also offers Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon, 5.5km and Kids distances for participants. With the next 50 years of great Marathon running about to commence in Rotorua, the question is will you be ready to take on the lake in 2015?

Not all marathons are created equal.

All marathons are 42.195km long; all marathons offer runners the chance of triumph and achievement.

But not all marathons are run in the shadow of one of the world’s most revered natural landmarks.  Only one marathon can offer the incredible total experience of Uluru and the surrounding marvels – the Australian Outback Marathon.

Run on a combination of unsealed roads, bush tracks, small sand dunes and famous Australian ‘red earth’, the event offers runners a thoroughly magical and unforgettable Outback experience.

Marathon, Half Marathon, 11km and 6km events are all available, so you needn’t be a hardcore adventure marathoner to be involved in this great occasion. The weather is also very agreeable at that time of year, making it an ideal race for a mid-winter – or mid-summer - get-away.

The Australian Outback Marathon is billed not simply as a running event but rather a fully hosted holiday experience. A range of itinerary packages are offered to ensure that each participant gets the experience they are after.

A huge variety of tourist activities is available in the area and organisers make it their personal mission to ensure every person has an unforgettable time at the Australian Outback Marathon.
