With only a few months to go until the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games, organisers of the Active Nation Lincoln 10K Sporting Weekend are seeing unprecedented early interest in the events.

Almost 700 applications have been received for the 10K road race, since online applications opened just three weeks ago at www.lincoln10k.co.uk – with more than 500 applications received by the City of Lincoln Council in one week alone.

Paper application forms are now also available from City Hall, Yarborough and Birchwood Leisure Centres, and various locations across Lincoln.

Split over two days for the first time, the main 10K road race will take place on Sunday 25th March. Applications should be submitted by Friday 16th March (unless a race is fully subscribed when entries will be closed).

The increasingly popular races - the Healthy Lifestyles Team Primary, the Lincoln College Secondary School Races and the Lincoln “Getmummyfit” Buggy Push - having their own dedicated day on Saturday 24th March.

A number of free ‘come and try it’ sessions will also be held on Saturday 24th March at Yarborough Leisure Centre between 10am and 4pm, with activities for all the family ranging from athletics, golf and wheelchair basketball, to water polo, hockey and volleyball.

There will also be the chance to try out some games and activities using the Nintendo Wii and Xbox Kinect games consoles.

The Inverness Half Marathon is stepping up a level this year, and is encouraging runners of all abilities to do the same.

With a new sponsor, new corporate team challenge, new nominated charity and endorsement from top Scots comedian and presenter, Fred MacAulay, all promising to revitalise the event in its 27th year, organisers are calling for a new generation of runners to join in and take up the challenge.

The 2012 Inverness Half Marathon will be sponsored by Global Energy Group and will take place on Sunday 11th March. As the first event in its class in the Scottish running calendar, it will offer serious athletes and enthusiastic amateurs that extra motivation needed to keep up their training over the winter season.

The event takes place in the heart of the Highland capital of Inverness with runners competing along the banks of the picturesque River Ness and in the shadow of the city’s imposing castle. Participants can choose a race option suited to their own style - from the 13 miles of the Half Marathon course to the popular 5K Fun Run or the inaugural 5K Team Attack event.
