For over three decades, Valencia has been offering runners one of the flattest Marathon courses you will find. Starting close to the Old City, the route takes in all of the major sights and modern buildings in the Arts and Sciences Museum area, as well as the Formula 1 circuit and the America's Cup port..
Personal Bests are certainly a possibility here and the race has gained an impressive reputation for quality of organisation over the years. Some of the sights will be truly inspiring. There is good support for participants throughout the course including live bands and some typically Valencian entertainment.
An important change in the 2011 race was the impressive start and finish location at the Ciudad de las Artes & Ciencias. Runners passed over the shimmering blue pools of the Museo de las Ciencias Principe de Felipe as they completed the 42,195 km race.
During the 80's, when the Valencia marathon was first established, there were a few runners dodging the cars along the route. Thirty years on, with the international promotion of 'sport for all', the Valencia marathon and half marathons have become a fundamental part of the city's social and sporting life and 2011 saw almost 4000 runners taking part.
