The Edinburgh Marathon Festival (EMF) takes place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May, 2014 (UK Spring Bank Holiday). EMF is Scotland’s largest running festival and the UK’s second biggest marathon. The course was voted the fastest marathon in the UK and Edinburgh the second best city in the UK for runners - so it’s fast, picturesque and flat, making it a must-do for runners, fundraisers and anyone looking to set a PB!

The marathon sells out every year and the half marathon sold out in 2013! With 100,000 spectators, 30,000 runners and a choice of 8 races, EMF 2014 has something for all ages and abilities. On Saturday 24 you can run the 5k, 10k, and two Junior Races and on Sunday 25 the Half Marathon, Marathon Team Relay and of course the renowned Edinburgh Marathon (first race in Scotland to be IAAF accredited making it a pivotal part of the running calendar).

When the gun goes for the start of the 2014 Edinburgh Marathon Festival it will signal the greatest year of sport Scotland has ever seen. In July, the Commonwealth Games begins in Glasgow with some of the finest athletes in the world converging on the second city to compete across 17 disciplines.

Then, in September, the focus switches to historic Gleneagles for the 2014 Ryder Cup, the first time the contest has taken place in golf’s homeland since 1973. But before you put your feet up to cheer on your sporting heroes, you have a great chance to play a part in what promises to be a fantastic year for Scottish sports fans.

Neil Kilgour, Edinburgh Marathon Festival director, said: “Scotland is preparing to welcome the world in 2014 and we look forward to delivering an outstanding Edinburgh Marathon Festival that the nation will be proud of.

“Now is the time to make 2014 your year. The earlier you sign up the better, both to guarantee a place and set aside plenty of time to work out a sound training programme so you’re in peak condition on the big day.  There really couldn’t be a better time to plan a trip to Scotland.”
