If running isn’t your favourite activity, cycling could be a good alternative. With the increasing popularity of cyclosportive events, it’s not even necessary to be competititve.

Also known as gran fondo or cyclo, these are organised rides for hundreds to thousands of amateur riders, following a signposted course, often with timing, mechanical assistance, food and drink stops.

It’s their social nature that can make them so appealing – and often they’re held on the same route the day before an official cycle race, so that riders can feel the thrill of completing the same course as elites.

The Prudential Ride London Surrey 100 is a classic case of cyclosportive success. Only two years old, entries both years have sold out within days.

Having just run 42.195km and climbed 1829m from Interlaken to Kleine Scheidegg, Thomas Hellrigl is thrilled to finish his Jungfrau Marathon in 3:58:53.  This beautiful course runs below the majestic peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains.
