For 43 years Round the Bays Auckland has been providing a great day out for runners, joggers, and walkers from all over Auckland and the rest of New Zealand.
Initiated by the Auckland Joggers Club in 1972 with a humble 1200 runners, today’s Round the Bays Auckland event sees 40,000 registered runners and approximately 70,000 total participants – making it one of the worlds largest fun runs.
The 8.4km course is a major reason for the event’s success, with glorious waterfront views from start to finish. Beginning in the city on Quay St, runners follow the contours of beautiful Waitemata Harbour as they make their way to the finish line at St Heliers Bay. The family friendly, relaxed atmosphere is of course the other major draw card of the event – the Round the Bays is known as much for being a great day out as it is an athletic event.
Round the Bays Auckland is also a fun run with a big heart, placing a lot of emphasis on fundraising for charity. Entries are open now so get registered, get fundraising and possibly even get training for what promises to be another special day out in Auckland!
Being tough is one thing; being tough enough is a whole other story. The Loaded Tough Guy and Gal Challenge is back, ready to test you once more in 2015.
Wellington, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Auckland, Hawke’s Bay and Rotorua are prepped to give you the chance to get dirty, to get a little beat up, and to get a great indication of just how tough you really are.
Now in its 13th year, the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge is well established as one of the most exciting and fun running events in New Zealand.
With obstacles such as barbed wire crawls, net climbs, swamp crossings, tunnels and of course mud pits included in the event, its outstanding reputation isn’t exactly surprising. You will get dirty, you will get bruises, and you will have fun.
Participants have the choice of doing either 2 laps (12km) or 1 lap (6km) of the course, with shorter distances offered to children as part of the junior event.
The fun and excitement of the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge has never been questioned. The buzzing atmosphere of the event has never been questioned. The only question is – are you tough enough?
