Canada’s capital city Ottawa has many things to be proud of. As of October last year it is now extra proud of its marathon.
The Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon was awarded an IAAF Gold Label making it one of two gold label events in Canada and putting it in the same category as Boston, New York, Chicago and Toronto marathons.
These organisers know what they’re doing! Together with its Gold Label for the Ottawa 10K - the only 10K gold in North America - Ottawa joins Lisbon as one of only two road racing events in the world to hold two IAAF Gold label races in one weekend.
Now in its 42nd year, the 2016 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend will welcome about 48,000 runners across seven races including the full marathon, wheelchair marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km, 2km and kids’ marathon. All races start and finish in front of Ottawa City Hall.
Known for its fast flat course, the Ottawa Marathon is one of Canada’s largest Boston qualifying races. Held on the last weekend in May, conditions are just right for running a good time.
Featuring the striking backdrop of Canada’s capital, the first-class organisation of an IAAF event, the atmosphere of thousands of spectators and a fast course ideal both for personal bests and first-timers, this is a world-class marathon that must be experienced.
