Would you? Could you? On a bike? A mountain bike that is - and speeding through a forest, in the dark.

If it’s adventure you’re after, look no further than the Nzo Rotorua Moonride. New Zealand knows how to deliver thrills and this event has no lack of them.

Situated in the stunning native bush of Rotorua’s Whakarewarewa Forest, the Moonride has been providing this specific style of excitement for more than 20 years.

Going solo or in teams of up to 5, riders take on a challenge of either 24 hours, 12 hours or 6 hours. The aim is to ride as many loops of the 9km track as possible within the time frame.

All events ride the same route, which is a mix of grade 2 and 3 mountain bike tracks and forestry roads to allow for easy passing. This allows for the course to be challenging enough to be fun for the fast people, but also easily rideable by just about anybody with a mountain bike.

Taking about half an hour to do a loop, teams decide how long each rider is on for and they can tag in and out.

Each team can set up a campsite right on the race course and riders wind their way through it creating continuous entertainment for those awaiting their turn.

This April put some lights on your bike, gather your team together, get on your bike and ride!
