Fast finish times have given the men’s and women’s Melbourne Marathon winners a fighting chance to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Brad Milosevic was thrilled to finish in 2:16:00, beating the qualifying time by 1 minute. He’s the fourth Australian to qualify for the Olympics, which gets his name in the hat for the three available places.

Jess Trengove smashed almost 2m30s off her personal best to finish in 2:27:45. This makes her the sixth fastest Australian marathon runner ever and a guaranteed entry at Rio de Janeiro.

Running conditions were perfect for the 37th running of the marathon which returned once again to finish inside the revered Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Melbourne is a wonderful city with a picturesque mix of old and modern architecture, abundant cycle ways and green spaces. The marathon course loops Albert Park Lake, follows the St Kilda foreshore and passes through the botanic gardens to the finish.

Kick-starting the Canada Running Series once again is Vancouver’s Modo Spring Run Off. Held near the end of March the annual fun and fast 8k around Stanley Park marks the beginning of the running season for many.

Featuring a pack of over 1300 runners, all ages and abilities are represented and celebrated.

Taking off from Stanley Park’s Miniature Railway Train Yard the course takes a scenic slog past the Lost Lagoon and along the Seawall before returning to the park’s trails and finishing at the Stanley Park Pavilion.

Upon finishing you’re left to enjoy a Community Fair including co-operative groups from around Vancouver and activities for the whole family. Every registrant receives a technical fabric event shirt, finish medal and post-race food.

The Canada Running Series prides itself on its community-building events and at the core is a massive charitable component.

This year’s Modo Spring Run Off official charity is the Music Heals Charitable Foundation. The Foundation raises funds for Music Therapy programs across Canada With a fantastic running community and a super running climate why not begin your year at the Vancouver Modo Spring Run Off?
