Weekend for running and swimming

Runners and swimmers of all abilities and fitness levels are encouraged to sign up for Sydney’s favourite community sport weekend - The Sydney Morning Herald Sun Run and Cole Classic presented by Virgin Active.

Participants can enter as individuals or a team and those who register in both events go into the draw to win a trip to the Cooly Classic Ocean Swim in the world swim series, valued at over $1000.

Both events will raise funds for more than 800 charities, including Manly and Dee Why Life Saving Clubs. Organisers hope to build on last year’s amazing efforts - raising more than $200,000 to support the community.

Sun Run:

Celebrating fitness, fun and an active lifestyle, the annual Sydney Morning Herald Sun Run presented by Virgin Active will again grace the shores of the scenic Northern Beaches on Saturday 6th February for the start of the ultimate community sporting weekend, linked with the Cole Classic the following day.

Runners of all ages are encouraged to enter for a chance to prove their New Year’s resolutions are paying off in either the 7km ‘Fun Run’ or a more challenging 10km course. Over 5,500 participants are expected to take part in the event with runners treated to amazing views of the Northern Beaches coastline.

Both courses start from Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club and finish at the iconic Manly Surf Life Saving Club.

Cole Classic:

The annual Sydney Morning Herald Cole Classic presented by Virgin Active will take place on Sunday 7th February in conjunction with the Sun Run (happening on the Saturday).

Commencing in 1983 with only 101 swimmers, the city’s most historic and well known swimming event will see more than 3,200 entrants participate in a selection of 1km, 2km or a brand new 5km course from the pristine Shelly Beach and finishing at the Manly Beach Surf Club.

This event began as an uncompetitive way for recreational swimmers to stretch themselves in mind and body and the same approach is used today, with participates using this as an incentive to get fit and test themselves.
