Are you tired of the same old running routine? Does your body have a thirst for adventure that regular road events just aren’t quenching? Do you wish to be whisked to a far off land where the surroundings blow your mind with exhilaration? Yes?

Then the Great Wall Marathon is the event for you!

Since its launch in 1999, the Great Wall Marathon has become a legend in the marathon world. Regarded as one of the world's most challenging events, this is the event of a lifetime.

Annually held in May and located a couple of hours drive out of Beijing on the Huangyaguan or Huangya Pass, this enchanting mountain area is away from the most commercial parts of the Wall.

The section of the wall used for the event is a sequence of towers linked by undulating paths and flights of stairs fluctuating from a few centimetres deep to almost knee-height.

Luckily, as part of the tour, all runners are invited to inspect this portion of the Wall two days before the event so they can know what to expect and make a race day plan.

Other than tackling the arduous task of the Wall, the route takes runners through valleys, past villages with locals coming out to watch and cheer them on. The scenery is breath-taking and the inspiring atmosphere completely unique to this special race

The Great Wall Marathon is organised as part of a tour. Runners’ being able to travel together in groups creates an experience like no other. Life long friendships are made not only though the marathon but also on other excursions through this remarkable land.

Offering the perfect opportunity to bring spectators or fun runners, The Great Wall Marathon event has three distance options: a marathon, half marathon and an 8.5km Fun Run. All events take on the Wall and all guarantee memories that will stay with you forever.
