The hidden Italian gem is the best way to describe the Elbaman Triathlon.

Founder Marco Scotti organizes the event affectionately. He says: “We are a big family. Here the original roots of an old-school triathlon are still dominant. We want everyone to feel the most important person of the day.”

The whole thing started 11 years ago with 90 participants and has developed to a charming international event. Elbaman offers two distances; "Iron" distance and half iron distance. The full is also open to relay teams.

It starts with two swim laps in the bay of Marina di Campo. With a normal water temperature of about 20 degrees, participants find it pleasant at this time of year.

The 180km bike leg is a technically demanding distance on smooth asphalt. It’s a challenging three laps with magnificent views of the steep coast and total climbing of 2400m.

The run distance leads alongside the seafront of Marina di Campo: six laps of seven kilometres.

Race capacity is set at 300 entries on the full, 400 in the half and 40 teams. Entries for 2016 opened in November and usually sell out fast, especially in the half. In recent years about 30 percent of participants are foreigners.

Elbaman has become an iconic race for its charm and also because Marco and his team always organize something special for the athletes, including spot prizes with a long list of valuable gifts and special treatment for iron-women who will find a specific and personal tent in the transition zone.

Due to the fact that the high season is over, the island offers a lot of different accommodation at discounted rates. It’s possible to organize a shuttle bus for individuals or teams from the airport to the Island. The nearest international airport is Pisa, less than one hour drive from the ferry departure. The ferry itself takes about one hour.

In 2016 Elbaman Triathlon will be on 25th September. The team from Marathon-Photos.com will again be present to capture the best moments of personal achievement.
