The 1st Inaugural Cliffs of Moher Marathon takes place on Saturday 25th September 2010. The event starts off with a Half Marathon in 2010 and a full marathon will be introduced to the event in 2011.  

The Cliffs of Moher Half Marathon starts from Doolin Pier where you will be able to see the stunning views of the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher on a clear day. You then continue through the quaint picturesque village of Doolin heading towards the road that takes you to the Cliffs of Moher passing Doonagore Castle on your right hand side.  The course is up hill and flat in places leading to the Cliffs for the first 9km (5 miles).  It can be tough at times, but certainly achievable.

The joy is when you arrive at the Cliffs of Moher Visitors Centre where you will be met with a big cheer and lots of support from the visitors centre staff to send you on your way. The course is then down hill all the way with a breath taking view to take with you! You pass by the famous St Bridget’s well at 10km and continue down hill to the pretty Liscannor Pier at 16km. You then have your final 5km run with Lahinch in your sights passing by the world famous Lahinch golf course and finishing at Lahinch Pier with the sand at your feet. Hopefully it will be a lovely sunny day and a relaxing swim afterwards may be on the cards!

The Cliffs of Moher is the most visited tourist spot in Ireland and as part of your entry fee you will receive access to both the visitors and exhibition centres.  The Cliffs of Moher have also been entered into the 7 wonders of the natural world competition that takes place in November 2011 so if you choose to run or walk the course you’ll be in for some spectacular scenery along the way.
