The Volkswagen Prague Marathon belongs to the top ten marathons worldwide.


The three fastest men were all Kenyans; Benson Kipchumba Barus, Kenneth Mburu Mungara and Samuel Kiplimo Kosgei.


The majority of about 8000 runners enjoyed not only the fast route, but also the unique scenery and the places of interest in the town, this is what the Prague marathon is famous for. In 2:07:07 Barus scarcely had any competition.

Pavel Novák, the Czech favourite, could not compete with a time of 2:26:20 compared to his compatriot Petr Pechek, who came in after 2:18:28.


Relatively warm temperatures on the 8th of May prevented a new distance record. The best three ladies come from Kenya and Ethiopia. The Kenyan Lydia Cheromei crossed the line after 2:22:34 in the famous old town of Prague, which was 6 minutes before the second racer, Yeshimebet Tadesse.






For those who preferred to watch running alongside the river and in the heart of a medieval town, bands were playing in the streets lined by cheering spectators. A marathon fair, the marathon sport Expo, were also on hand during this perfect marathon week-end. The team of provided perfect photos of all participants.
