The Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia is synonymous for being one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. Now in its 36th year, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon to be held on 5-6 July, has become an icon of the Gold Coast itself, and was awarded Queensland’s sport event of the year at the 2013 Queensland Sport Awards. 


An IAAF Road Race Gold Label event in 2014, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon has long been a favourite of distance runners from Australia and around the globe. 

This is a course that is flat, fast and picturesque, offering runners of all levels a great chance to shatter personal bests. Taking place alongside the famous surf beaches of the Gold Coast, the course is also well known for being the best in runner comfort. July is the perfect month to run on the Gold Coast, with very low humidity combined with pleasant 10–20ºC temperatures to create fantastic running conditions. 


The 2014 Gold Coast Airport Marathon will hold an even higher than usual significance for runners with designs on winning it all, as this year’s event doubles as the Australian Marathon Championships. Australia’s finest elite marathon runners have been targeting this event for some time, which should lead to blazing times and perhaps a thrilling finish for spectators to enjoy. 

The event offers something for runners of all ages and abilities meaning everyone can get involved in what is always a great weekend. Races include the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge and the 4km & 2km Junior Dash. 


More than 30, 000 runners are expected to participate in this year’s event, making it one of Australia’s biggest distance running occasions. 

The ASICS Sport and Leisure Expo is a great chance for participants to check out the latest and greatest products, events and activities in the running world. Everything from the latest timing technology through to energy gels can be discovered at the expo.
