The loneliness of the long distance runner is no more with the ASB Auckland Marathon keen to make the country’s biggest running event a team sport too.

Grab your friends and family to participate as a team in the ASB Auckland Marathon - or grab your work colleagues and become the Claymore Partners Corporate Challenge champions.

The online registration system can easily cater for participants to register as a team, whether you are competing in the 42.2km ASB Auckland Marathon, the 21.1km Half Marathon, the revamped 12k Traverse or the Heart Foundation 5k Challenge.

Team performance and the most colourful appearance will be rewarded!

What’s more, teams and corporate groups can create their own team “lounge” within the Event Village at Victoria Park to enjoy the entertainment throughout the day. Either put up your own marquee or the organisers can provide one and erect it for you. They also offer some great corporate packages for catering and equipment hire.

It’s so easy to do – and the instructions are simple. Corporate sites sell out fast!

Runners in this year’s ASB Auckland Marathon are going to get more bang for their buck; the popular quarter-marathon will be extended to a new 12k Traverse for this year’s race.

The event proved so popular last year that organisers want to provide more room as it grows.

While the ASB Auckland Marathon and Half Marathon begin in Devonport, the 12k Traverse will start from Smales Farm near Northcote.

It will still head over the Auckland Harbour Bridge to the same route as last year with the distance increased by 2km to 12km.

“Fitting the race start into the small area at Akoranga Station proved difficult and the start time was ultimately delayed for the quarter marathon,” said ASB Auckland Marathon Event Director, Michelle Nauer.

“Smales Farm provides a great staging area for runners with plenty of parking and room for bus drop-offs.

“With the extra distance on the North Shore side runners in the 12k Traverse will have a clearer run over the Auckland Harbour Bridge and ultimately an improved experience,” she said.
