1st June was a day like no other – Global Running Day.

Held annually on the first Wednesday in June, it’s a day for people around the world to celebrate the joys of running and a way to inspire others to get moving. Almost 2 million runners from 148 countries took part.

The Million Kid Run aimed to get young people moving by having a million kids around the world pledge to run the same day.

The Million Kid Run is about making fitness fun, and inspiring kids to embrace running as a way to get healthy and fit.

Global Running Day is a collaborative effort of the world’s most prominent running organizations, with many top professional runners helping to share their passion for the sport with the global running community.

It’s one of the toughest marathons in the world but that didn’t faze Australia’s Sarah Beck. She went on to conquer China’s Great Wall Marathon and all 5164 steps – in 4:49:45.
