All glory belonged to the Kenyans in the RunCzech flagship events, Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon, in April and Volkswagen Marathon Weekend in May.

Violah Jepchumba carved almost four minutes off her personal best when taking victory at the Prague Half Marathon on 2nd April. The 26-year-old came home in 1:05:51, the fourth fastest time in history on a record-eligible course.

On what was a calm, cool day in the Czech capital, the men’s race was won in equally convincing fashion by Daniel Wanjiru, who overcame a mid-race fall to take victory in 59:20.

For the fifth time in 22 editions of the marathon, Lawrence Cherono and Lucy Karimi made it a Kenyan double on 8th May

Cherono made a powerful late-race surge to win the men’s race in 2:07:24, taking more than two minutes off his previous best, while compatriot Lucy Karimi did likewise to take the women’s title in 2:24:46.

Both Prague races reach registration capacity within weeks – 10,300 for the full and 11,500 for the half. Perhaps one reason is the stunning routes each takes.

Half marathon runners enjoy a course with incomparable scenery in the heart of historic Prague that follows the Vltava river and crisscrosses five beautiful bridges. They take in majestic views of the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, the Rudolfinum Concert Hall, the National Theatre, Vyšehrad Castle, and the Dancing House.
