Air New Zealand pilot Mike Allsop flies 737 aircraft but has flown out for a 777 adventure – seven marathons on seven continents in seven days.

By running 42km on consecutive days in Falkland Islands, Chile, the US, UK, Morocco, Hong Kong and Auckland, he plans to be the first New Zealander to complete the feat.

Always a keen climber, the 42-year-old has conquered Mt Everest without a guide but wanted a challenge with slightly less risk.  Marathon training began a couple of years ago and the 777 was due to be run last July but a stress fracture in his spine delayed the start until February.

During his marathon campaign, Mike hopes to raise $50,000 for children’s charity KidsCan.  Follow his progress at

Sheer elation at the finish. Scott Cardwell, of Dunedin, completes Challenge Wanaka in 12:58:08 and celebrates his personal victory with a couple of mates.
