If you want a 100% off-road run, enter now for the Copthorne Off-Road Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon and 5km in Rotorua.
All events take place in the spectacular Whakarewarewa Forest, close to the city. They offer scenic trails, smooth gravel forest roads and some mountain biking tracks, which will be closed for the day.
The start and finish are at the Waipa Sawmill recreation area adjacent to the mountain bike carpark.
The half marathon course is made up of a 10.5km loop followed by a 10.6km loop. It has been designed to be achievable by competitors of all abilities.
The Quarter marathon course is one 10.5km loop, while the 5km fun run/walk is a smaller loop, on forestry roads and walking tracks.
Known to locals simply as ‘The Redwoods’, the 55,000ha Whakarewarewa Forest is a playground for mountain bikers, walkers, hikers and horse riders set amongst magnificent stands of towering Californian Redwoods, lush native forest and exotic trees.
Established in 1901 as an experiment to test the suitability of different native and exotic forest species for commercial planting, Whakarewarewa is home to a large number of native plant species as well as the giant Redwoods.
In 1988, the Government decided to sell off Crown forestry assets. Because the Whakarewarewa Forest was widely recognised for its importance to the Rotorua community for historical, recreational and aesthetic reasons, the forest was given special status to ensure recreational access was retained.
Enter the Off-Road race now and enjoy earlybird entry fees until 20th February.
