This year the half distance Challenge Melbourne is brought to Melbourne’s favourite triathlon location, Catani Gardens, St Kilda.

Participants will have exclusive access to the most popular open water swimming beach, plus a beach-side cycle course and running track all close to the CBD.

The 1.9km swim course off St Kilda Beach is a rectangular shape with four turns and a beach start. Participants will be well looked after by Elwood Life Saving Club while spectators have plenty of viewing areas both on the beach and beach path.

The 90km bike route is three laps out and back along a fully closed Beach Road, turning at Black Rock, past Sandringham.

Finally, it’s the 21.1km run. This is a two-lap course that heads along the beach pathway towards Brighton, turning at the Elwood Boat Ramp.

All runners crossing the finish line will celebrate with a complimentary stein of beer.

To some, Melbourne is the sporting capital of the world. It has an abundance of accommodation, cafes, tourist activities and other sporting events.

Long-distance runners from right around Australia will converge on Canberra for a weekend of activity with the whole family, at the iconic Australian Running Festival on Saturday 8th April and Sunday 9th April.

Entrants from near and far can set themselves a new bucket list challenge, in celebrating a full weekend of healthy lifestyles, fitness and fun across the scenic course that showcases the best of the nation’s capital.

The Half Marathon, The Canberra Times Marathon and the 50km Ultra Marathon will take place on Sunday 9th April, preceded by the 5km and 10km courses on Saturday 8th April.

The longer-distance courses will take participants on a route following the parliamentary triangle, along the banks of Lake Burley Griffin and finishing on East West lawns.

In 2017, the Festival will also host the 50km race as an official qualifying event for the AURA Australian Championships. Competitors from this event will be selected to represent Australia at the World Ultra Marathon Championships in Doha, Qatar in late 2017.

Registrations are open now for a weekend away with the whole family at the Australian Running Festival.
