The 35th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon has become the first Australian marathon race to attain an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Road Race Bronze Label putting it in esteemed company around the world.

 

Entries for the internationally recognised event held on the stunning Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia are now open. It is set to attract more than 30,000 participants of all ages and abilities across a number of race distances. The program will feature the full 42.195km Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km Run, 5.7km Challenge and Junior Dash 4km and 2km races.

 

The marathon course is renowned worldwide for being flat, fast and scenic, running alongside the glistening Southport Broadwater and sparkling Pacific Ocean surf beaches.

Thousands of spectators line the scenic course along with roving musicians and entertainers, creating an amazing atmosphere called ‘Runspiration’ to help inspire and motivate the runners. All finishers receive a commemorative medallion, event shirt, certificate and other rewards to mark the occasion and their personal achievement.

There is also the opportunity for participants to fundraise for the event’s official charity, Cancer Council Queensland, or another charity of their choice. More than $470,000 was raised for various charities last year.

 

Visitors and locals can enjoy the free ASICS Sport & Leisure Expo at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and will even have the chance to meet and hear advice from marathon legends such as Rob de Castella, Steve Moneghetti, Lee Troop, Lisa Ondieki and Pat Carroll at the Legends Lunch.
