We are happy to announce that in September 2011 we will be launching the 2012 Hull Marathon. Scheduled to take place on Sunday April 8th 2012, Easter Sunday, this is a new event in the running calendar which will enhance the current programme of sporting events in the City, while promoting sport, fitness and a healthy lifestyle and raising much needed funds for Local and National charities and good causes.

With a high profile Start and Finish in the centre of Hull surrounded by a sports and local business expo, and a closed road route which takes in some of the sights of the City and surrounding area, the Hull Marathon will deliver the big event feel and show visitors to the area exactly what Hull is all about. There will also be junior and childrens' races and a fun run taking part throughout the day to extend the experience and provide something for everyone.

As with all sporting events the safety of the participants is a priority for all involved with the Hull Marathon, which is why the event team has contracted local Sports Medicine Specialist Keith Warner to consult on all aspects of health, safety and well-being, ensuring we do all we can to meet the medical, safety and comfort needs of every participant. Keith Warner and his team will also be putting a package of pre event services together for participants, including access to foot scans, resting metabolic rate tests, training plans, nutritional support and cardiac screening.

Allowing participants to prepare themselves for training and taking part in the Marathon.

Event registration went live on September 21st 2011, with a special early bird discount for the first 250 to register and a 50% discount for the first five entries.

On Sunday 29 April 2012 over 5,000 participants will take part in the Greater Manchester Marathon. Greater Manchester last hosted a marathon ten years ago in 2002; and the return of this iconic race is already causing a real buzz in the city.

The 26 miles, 385 yd marathon will start and finish in Longford Park, Stretford with participants enjoying fully closed roads, and with only 81m of elevation gain, will be one of the world’s flattest marathon routes making it accessible for first time marathoners and great for elites looking to set new personal best times. Participants will go past iconic landmarks such as the Old Trafford cricket and football grounds, Dunham Massey Park, and many community centres around the Trafford Borough where thousands of spectators will be cheering the runners on.

The event will be supporting the local community and is expected to raise over £1,000,000 for charities including the Charity Partners: The Christie Charity; Henhsaws Society for Blind People; and the Manchester United Foundation.

Additionally, with 2012 being the year the country hosts the Olympics, there will undoubtedly be added inspiration for people to take part in this fitness challenge.

Participants can enter with an early bird discounted price of £39 (£41 unaffiliated) until the end of October 2011; the price will include free training plans, goody bag & t-shirt, chip timing, and a friendly helping hand from the support team on event day. It is advisable to enter sooner rather than later as entries are filling fast!
