Travelling great distances to photograph marathons is part of the job for team leader Paula Stuart-Jones.  But appearing on Russian television talking about her work was definitely different.

Paula led the photography team at the Siberian International Marathon in Omsk where the Prodvizheniye TV channel was a key sponsor.  She was interviewed while inspecting the course, appeared at a press conference with the race organisers and major sponsors and was interviewed in the television studio.

With no common language, she had a list of Russian questions translated and took her cue from a translator on whether to laugh, smile, or look serious as she listened, then replied in English.

“I had to pretend I understood Russian.  I did it very well apparently. My translator was wonderful the whole time we were there.”

Running mates Shane Woldendorp and Thomas Hagglund finished their first Blackmores Sydney Running Festival marathon in 4:22:19.  This spectacular event crosses the harbour bridge and finishes at the Opera House.
