The Barcelona race has grown spectacularly in participants in recent years, reaching 19,507 registered runners this year, the largest crowd in its history.

Barcelona is without doubt a city full of attractions that makes many foreign runners choose this city’s marathon with the added bonus of spending a weekend in the Catalan capital. There are many attractions offered by Barcelona; good climate, unbeatable gastronomic and cultural attractions and a quality marathon that offers its participants a flat course and that runs through the main attractions of Barcelona. The Sagrada Familia, Passeig de Gracia, La Pedrera, the Agbar Tower and Las Ramblas are just some examples of the monuments that the runners can observe during the race.

The next Zurich Marató de Barcelona takes place on Sunday March 17th 2013, with the start and finish again being held from the spectacular Avda. Maria Cristina with the impressive Palau de Montjuic in the background. Without a doubt, one of the most emblematic scenes in Barcelona, which also hosted the 2012 race with more than 19,000 participants, nearly half of whom came from outside of Spain.

Another major attraction of the Zurich Marató de Barcelona, is the ExpoSport; the runners expo held by the organisation two days before the race, which becomes the hub for the marathoner during the hours before the event. In just a few years, the ExpoSport has become the largest runners expo in Spain and a major in Europe, occupying an area of 12,000 square metres and with more than 140 exhibitors linked to the running, triathlon and trail world. Moreover, it is the place where all the participants have to go to collect their bib numbers.
