2012 is the 8th running of the Briars Highland Fling, Australia’s mountain bike marathon championship. Offering beautiful scenery, a rugged and diverse route, challenging climbs and sweet down hills, the Highland Fling is a top class event.

The event takes place in the picturesque village of Bundanoon in the heart of Australia’s Southern Highlands.  It’s 90 minutes drive from Canberra or Sydney and just an hour out of Wollongong.  Nearby is the spectacular Morton National Park with its numerous scenic walks, breathtaking views, impressive waterfalls and gorges - and the late night delights of the Glow Worm Glen to explore. The mountain bike course itself offers a scenic and challenging route through forests and farmlands, hammering along single track, forest tracks, dirt road and only a miniscule amount of tarmac.

The Fling is an MTB Marathon for all, with Full Fling (110km), Half Fling (55km), Flinging Threesome (relay) and the challenging 100 mile Fling options offered to competitors. There is also a Casual Fling untimed 14km participation ride open to less experienced or less fit riders.

The majority of the racing is on Sunday 11th November but there’s plenty happening on the Saturday as well, including mini cycling events along with entertainment, food and drink, kids’ skills courses and equipment displays and demonstrations.
