Munich – the capital city of beer, BMW and Bavaria. For the 27th time, runners are being given the opportunity to run a marathon through this historically, culturally and architecturally rich Bavarian city.

The city of Munich boasts a great deal of attractions and events and with the world renowned Munich Oktoberfest concluding the week before, on the 14th October the city turns its attention to distance running.

The marathon course includes such sights as the famous Marienplatz, the renowned Opera House and the serene English Garden, but it is undoubtedly the finish which is the real draw card of the course.

After running through a gateway of music, mist and coloured lights, participants enter the magnificent Olympic Stadium and run the final 400m of the race around the athletics track. For competitors of all abilities and ambitions, this is surely one of the most exciting finishes to any distance running event in the world. Half Marathon, 10km and relay events are also offered to participants.

Crowd support of the Munich Marathon is outstanding, and in the wake of Oktoberfest many runners have reported being offered beer from enthusiastic locals in the middle of the race!

Celebrated as ‘the experience marathon’ and attracting over 27,000 entrants per year, in its 16th running the RheinEnergie Marathon Köln is now Germany’s third largest marathon event.

Organisers have worked hard to design a course which encompasses many of Cologne’s (Köln’s) world famous attractions, and runners experience Cologne’s magnificent architecture right from the beginning.

After crossing the Rhine River and turning to run along the banks, runners are immediately faced by the glorious twin towers of the imposing Cologne (Köln) Cathedral.  The marathon course proceeds to include more historic landmarks and architectural wonders than are able to be mentioned here.

Finishing in Cologne Deutz, the course is a wonderful combination of enjoyable riverside running and a fascinating tour of the city.

Marathon Köln of course features a variety of categories for entrants to choose from, including marathon, half marathon, skate and hand cycle marathons and junior and relay runs among others. Participants of all experiences and abilities are welcome to join in and enjoy this event which truly lives up to its branding.

The experience marathon – with its countless brilliant attractions, outstanding organisation, great level of competition for all participants and ever growing popularity… are you experienced?
