The flat, fast and scenic course is raced alongside the glistening Southport Broadwater and sparkling Pacific Ocean surf beaches in usually favourable running conditions with little or no wind, low temperatures and humidity.

A record-breaking 28,199 runners took part this year in various races, including the most finishers ever in an Australian marathon race (5,118). The race programme will feature a full 42.195km Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km Run, 5.7km Challenge and Junior Dash 4km and 2km races.

The event attracts a quality field of elite runners all pursuing a slice of the large prize money pool and the many national and regional championships on offer. Thousands of spectators line the scenic course along with roving musicians and entertainers, creating an amazing atmosphere called ‘Runspiration’ to help inspire and motivate the runners. All finishers receive a commemorative medallion, event shirt, certificate and other rewards to mark the occasion and their personal achievement.

Visitors and locals can add to their Gold Coast Airport Marathon experience by enjoying the accompanying Sport & Leisure Expo and Legends Lunch where runners have the chance to meet and hear advice from marathon legends such

as Rob de Castella, Steve Moneghetti, Lee Troop, Pat Carroll and Michael Shelley.

All runners are also offered the chance to dedicate their run to a charity of their choice with more than $500,000 raised for various charities including the official charity Cancer Council Queensland this year.
