One of the world’s truly unique mountain bike races took place in New South Wales, Australia, in late July.  The Wingello State Forest was home to the 3 Ring Circus, a mountain bike event with a circus theme and a party atmosphere.

The mountain biking side of things includes a Saturday Night Performance and a Sunday Matinee, although this is only half the event’s attraction.

Circus performers, side shows, campfires, costumed competitors and enthusiastic volunteers all contribute to give the event a truly special feel.

The event is worth entering for the mountain biking opportunities alone, with a 20km night race, 50km day race and shorter kid’s races taking place on enthralling, flowing mountain bike tracks.

Martine Robin took out the female title for the combined events in a time of 3:57:30, while the men’s combined event was won by Jason Chalker in 2:55:04. With events for 3 – 12 year olds, individual events and relays available, the 3 Ring Circus is well suited to mountain bikers of any ability, and is an ideal family event.

Whether it’s the event’s atmosphere, it’s originality, or of course its wonderful mountain biking races, people return to Wingello State Forest year after year for a great family event. Make sure you get in on the fun and see what it’s all about in 2014!

Walk around old Quebec City and the first thing you notice are the steep hills.  Everywhere is either up or down.

Run Quebec City Marathon and you’ll be enchanted by the scenery and relative flatness of the course.  This Marathon Des Deux Rives – to use its French name – is predominantly a waterfront marathon from Levis, on the east side of the St Laurence River to Quebec City on the west side, crossing the historic Pont de Quebec.

Since its inception in 1998, it has been an event for amateur runners.  The dream was to build it up to 10,000 participants from around the world.  This year more than 13,000 entered over three distances from 30 countries plus Canada, making reality far exceed the dream.

Old Quebec is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the route makes the most of its charming European architecture and stunning scenery.  Chateau Frontenac dominates the skyline towards the end of the run and is generally recognised as the most photographed hotel in the world.  It towers above runners as they head for the finish.

The Marathon is one of a series of events organised under the Run Quebec City banner.  All are a perfect opportunity to visit this fabulous French city in Canada.
