The 15th Angkor Wat Half Marathon will take place on 5 December 2010.  Accompanying the half marathon, there will be the 21k wheel chair race, 10k race, a 3k family fun run and a bike race and rally, some of which will take place on the 4 December.  The race takes place in the town of Siem Reap in north Cambodia, a 5-6 hour bus drive from the capital, Phnom Penh.

The chief charities for the race are VFI (Village Focus International) whose byline is ‘Investing in Local Leaders to Create Global Change’ and Hearts of Gold, the charity involved with providing artificial limbs for the victims of land mines, polio and Hansen’s disease.

The centre of attraction will be spectacular Angkor Wat, from where the annual Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K will start and finish.

Angkor Wat is a 12th century temple which was only discovered in 1860 by a French explorer, as it was buried under the dense jungles of Cambodia. There are over 100 ancient temples in the area, built between the 9th and 12th centuries. Angkor Wat is now a World Heritage Site since 1992.

Hamilton’s scenic Waikato River is the focus of a new course for the second SBS Bank Hamilton Half Marathon.

Organisers have moved the start/finish line to Flagstaff Park, where there is plenty of space for parking, registration and people to gather before and after the event.

The new half marathon course takes in a loop of Harrowfield before heading south on River Rd, using riverside paths where possible. It crosses to the west side of the river over picturesque Victoria Bridge and follows the river north, with a detour through Braithwaite Park, before crossing the river again near Alandale and heading back to Flagstaff Park and the finish.
Competitors in the 10km and 5km events will take in river paths and some of Hamilton’s beautiful northern parks.
There will also be a Kids Marathon once again.

This unique and increasingly popular event offers kids from 5-18 years the chance to complete a marathon, one kilometre at a time in the lead up to the Hamilton Half Marathon.  They finish with a final 2.195km run within Flagstaff Park, along the actual half marathon course.
